World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day Commemorated in Thessaloniki
A commemorative event dedicated to 31 December – World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day was held in Thessaloniki. The event was jointly organized by the Qala Greece–Azerbaijan Friendship Society and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Hellenic Republic.
The event brought together members of the Azerbaijani community residing in Thessaloniki, members of the accredited diplomatic corps, heads and representatives of diaspora organizations, as well as local residents.
The event was opened by Rashid Mammadov, Chairman of the Qala Greece–Azerbaijan Friendship Society, who spoke about the significance of this remarkable day for Azerbaijan. He reviewed the history of the institutional development of the Azerbaijani diaspora, noting that this process began with the return of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to the leadership of the country in 1993 and entered a new stage with the convening of the First Congress of World Azerbaijanis in 2001. The event also highlighted the principal areas of activity of Azerbaijani diaspora organizations and the important role of young people in strengthening diaspora engagement. It was emphasized that these achievements have been made possible under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and through his continued support and attention.
The First Secretary of the Embassy, Amina Zalova, then addressed the audience, providing participants with information on the history and significance of 31 December – World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day, as well as on the exceptional role played by the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, in the establishment of this commemorative day.
She further emphasized that, under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, who has successfully continued the wise political course of the National Leader, the unity and solidarity of the Azerbaijani people have become the foundation of the country's continued development. It was also noted that Azerbaijan is today a leading state in the region and, as a victorious nation, is experiencing one of the brightest periods in its history.
The event concluded with an official reception.
